The Whole Story - Worzel Gummidge - Stories 1 & 2...

We start a new collection this month with Worzel Gummidge.  After debuting on ITV in 1979, the strip appeared early in 1980.  Based on the books by Barbra Euphan-Todd, Jon Pertwee took to the straw to play the loveable scarecrow.  When John and Sue Peters move to Scatterbrook farm with their father, they can not guess the adventures they will have with the farmers scarcrow, who seems to come to life when nobody is looking, only the pure minds of children can see Worzel and his friends move.  There are a few stars who appear over the years, Lorraine Chase as Aunt Sally (Worzels love interest), Barbara Windsor as Saucy Nancy a ships figurehead, Bernard Cribbins as Jolly Jack a wooden sailor figure, as well as a few other scarecrows, The Crowman, played by Geoffrey Bayldon, famous to Look-in readers as Catweazle, is the local scarecrow maker, but he has a magical ability to instil life into them.  He has a myriad of diferent heads to change his scarecrows and give the different moods, but this usually adds to the chaos.  Here now you can follow that chaos every month...
