Charlie's Angels was the last of the great American series for me, before action got taken over by technology and vehicles. It was the story of Charles Townsend (never seen, but voiced by the late John Forsyth), who started a private investigation business, and took female ex-policewomen and used them as pretty decoys to get to the evidence he needed to solve cases. Starting in 1976, when we were introduced to Kate Jackson as Sabrina Duncan, Farrah Fawcett (then Fawcett-Majors due to being married to Six Million Dollar Man, Lee) as Jill Munroe and Jaclyn Smith (the only Angel to do every episode ever) as Kelly Garrett. Charlie had a minder for his Angels, he was called John Bosley (affectionately known as Bosley or Bos) played by David Doyle. The series became a ratings hit pretty quickly and when in 1977 Farrah decided to leave, a headache was caused. Cheryl Ladd who replaced her as Kris (Jill's sister) became immediately accepted, and so was created the longest serving threesome. Kate left in 1979 amid stories of clashes with Cheryl and was replaced by Shelley Hack as Tiffany Welles, this is when the strip joined Look-in. Although on the wain TV wise, it was a popular strip and lasted about two years, during which time it was decided Shelley wasn't working out (ratings never picked up and Shelly was blamed) and so she was replaced by Bond girl Tanya Roberts as Julie Rogers, the strip also incorporated the new Angel. The series continued it's decline and was cancelled in 1981. The series has been revived and movies have been made with two seperate casts and varying levels of success, but Charlie's Angels was a moment in time that could not be recaptured. Join me here now as we begin the Whole Story of Charlie's Angels...
